Big Announcement #1 Im Transitioning
Big Announcement #1 Im Transitioning Yes, you read that right. Surprised? So was I. Lest you think Im talking about transitioning from JibberJobber well, no. Im definitely not. Many of you know that for the past four years Ive been working with Pluralsight to develop their soft skills and professional development content. That has been a fun ride. I planned on giving them another three years, but as any JibberJobber user knows, things change. I have created thirty one awesome courses (well, at least 30 of them are awesome :p) that have been watched by many of Pluralsights customers. In 2015 I worked on fourteen courses no one does that. It was insane. I figured doing fourteen courses would entitle you to a therapist and a masseuse alas, I got neither What I did get over the last four years was an amazing education. I learned from Aaron Skonnard what a startup CEO looks like, talks, and how he/she thinks. I learned about culture in a different way than I had every been exposed. I learned that the heart of a company is the sales team. Er, perhaps it is the environment and culture. Or, perhaps it is the strategy, vision, and execution. Oh wait, it might just be hiring amazing people and enabling them to do stuff. Or, actually, they kept telling us that we (the content producers) were the heart or key of the companys success. What success? Massive revenue growth. Unicorn status. So, Im transitioning FROM doing Pluralsight videos. What am I transitioning TO? That will be the Big Announcement #2, hopefully the week of the 19th. What I learned is that no matter what your plans are, if you arent in 100% control, then things will change. I learned this almost 11 years ago when I got laid off (Friday the 13th, January of 2006). It was then that I decided that I would have multiple revenue streams. I didnt want want one employer to be able to yank 100% of my personal income. JibberJobber was started as a project in the hopes that I would eventually make $100 a month which would be that mental safety blanket when I landed my next job. Fortunately, I wasnt good at landing my next job. Anyway, if I have any regrets about the past four years with Pluralsight, it is that I neglected JibberJobber. Sure, I worked on it. Sure, my team kept working on it. But looking back on it now, I think there are many product manager things that I should have been doing that I simply didnt do. That is being corrected. So, hang tight I have a Big Announcement #2 coming in about a week. Its something weve been working on for a while now, and were really, really excited to finally roll out the first phase of it. Any guesses? Oh yeah, one final thought. I really think Pluralsight is awesome, and Ill continue to do whatever I can to help them grow. Im not leaving on bad terms, its just a change in their needs. If they come back with some more work, Id be happy to look at it. So, yeah, thats where we stand Big Announcement #1 Im Transitioning Yes, you read that right. Surprised? So was I. Profile of a Successful Salesperson - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Profile of a Successful Salesperson - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Are you driven? Successful salespeople are very goal driven determined to achieve their distant star and beyond. Further defining the personality and deep within, the successful salesperson does soul searching to understand their motivating forces and then prioritizes which to accomplish first. This becomes a forever commitment to education to do oneâs best. And the competitive salesperson strives to be the best. When unusual ideas are presented, this type is not quick to dismiss but instead possesses an open mindset to consider possibilities. The attitude is, anything is possible, with the right plan in place. Intuition is never ignored as the sixth sense is rarely wrong. Positive thought is a common thread among the successful. Belief in forthcoming success is very strong. But note, the determined sales professional will not attempt just any project. A distinguishing factor is the intended goal will be in alignment with priorities and desires. The goal itself becomes a motivating force to implement all that is required to achieve and implement correctly. Doubt never enters the picture. Instead, the goal is held in mind almost 24 hours per day until accomplished. Should positive thought be a struggle, as negativity is quite common, here is an exercise you might try: When speaking or thinking a negative thought, take note of it and do your best to turn it into a positive. Record your results over an entire quarter as you practice turning the negative into positive thought. Most likely, you will see greatly improved results in your accomplishments. Once on this path, it becomes stimulating to do even more. Obstacles are regarded as learning points and game challengers to see if one will make it to the finish line as a champion. While most salespeople prefer getting the sale rapidly, the more successful will pace themselves while balancing their commitment to education, as well as trial and error. Both of these components will leapfrog the student over those who are too anxious to put in the required time. Perseverance is the keyword for turning goals into achievable actions. Rather than talking much, the better salespeople question, listen and clarify for keen understanding. An open dialogue with clientele encourages long lasting relationships for improved business. The more successful walk away from grumpy potential clients to seek the compatible in order to find joy in the work about to be started. When new opportunities in the forms of joint venture partnership or unusual requests for services are presented, the successful circle back to priorities and commitments already in place. The reasoning is two-fold: First, the successful are determined to ensure excellence in service is always delivered. This almost guarantees the possibility of repeat business, referrals and testimonials. Second, the consistency seen builds a formidable personal brand. This personality type is typically of high energy and uses the words Thank You prolifically and offers to be available when questions arise. In the end, both sides of the table are appreciative. Incorporating these traits will put you on the wave of the Smooth Sale! How do I stand out from the crowd University of Manchester Careers Blog
How do I stand out from the crowd University of Manchester Careers Blog In a competitive job market with hundreds of thousands of students graduating each year, many students worry that they will not stand out. So here are a few tips: Start early Dont come and tell us when you graduate that you wish you had done something in your first year. Being at university is a bit like a full-time job, you need to build on experience and occasionally be out of your comfort zone to have a successful outcome. Its too easy to drift along and suddenly 3 years have passed. MAKE A PLAN (its not too late even if you are going into your final year next year.) SEEK ADVICE yes talk to us, we can point you in the right direction. TAKE ACTION Dont wait around, it really is a case of you snooze you lose! Do something! In order to stand out you must have done something. It sounds stupid, of course you have done something, you have a degree, but you would be amazed to see how many graduates come out with just that and nothing else to show for their three years. Volunteer often its the first step to getting experience on your CV which will make you more employable and get you your first paid job. Have a part-time job (but if its just working at McCluckys dont let it take over, you need to find time for other experience too.) Get involved in University life, course reps, peer mentoring, student societies sports can all look good on your CV as long as you are ACTIVELY involved, dont just sit in the background, make a difference. Use your vacations, opportunities exist for all year groups. Formal placements, internships, insight days, short projects and extended voluntary projects. Attend networking events organised by the Careers Service, your school and by professional societies. A key complaint from employers is that students dont graduate with skills for the job market and are not ready for work. You can stand out by demonstrating that you have these skills gained from the experiences above. Making applications its not university challenge! One way to stand out at applications and at interview is to use those skills university students are famous for RESEARCH SKILLS. An outstanding application is often not one from an outstanding person its simply from someone who has done their homework. Research the employer what are their unique selling points why are they different from their competitors? What matters to them? Research the job role what does it really involve and why do you want to do it? What skills will be needed and do you have them? Provide evidence. Most applicants simply dont do this the research, so they could have tonnes more experience than you but if their applications are poor then they wont get shortlisted. Its also not a design contest, your CV does not need to LOOK different from everyone elses it should BE different. Its the content that counts It may be a crowded job market but its not that hard to be outstanding. International Womens Day - Perfect For Creating a Legacy of Learning -
International Womens Day - Perfect For Creating a Legacy of Learning - As parents, we naturally want to see our children achieve success. We hope that theyll be able to see all their dreams come true. So we sort out what weve learned along the way of life, and pass on the best. As a legacy of learning. Like you, Ive read a library of books over my lifetime. Ive attended classes, seminars, and conventions. All in the quest for a few gems of wisdom that would help me achieve what I defined as success. Id hope that my own childrens quest would be made easier by the legacy Ive given to them. And what better way to mark International Womens Day that to build on that legacy? Heres some jewels of wisdom that Ive found. Defining Wealth Success in life is too frequently measured in wealth that is defined simply by the size of your bank account. But wealth is much more subjective than that, and certainly much more than net worth, income, or the car you drive. Too often, financial advice books and experts who claim to have all the secret answers to attaining wealth focus on nothing but the material world. I was quite surprised recently when I was sent a review copy of Tailored Wealth Management and found this: . . .understand what creates financial success and what its effects are, and ignore what the man or woman next to you is doing. They are following their path. You should follow yours A wealth management book that allows for personal perspective? That the journey has meaning, too? How refreshing! Thats definitely something every child should learn. As author Niall J. Gannon says Be happy in your boat, and care less about what the next guy is doing in his boat. Cause and Effect Being happy where you are doesnt mean you lack aspirations for creating something more or better. It means youve learned that life is mostly just a result of choices. That theres a cause and effect. And that youve learned how to estimate and connect the effects of your choices. Check out Gannons book. It perhaps could have been titled Not Another Wealth Management Book, because it isnt just another piece of boring financial dribble. Hint: Read and discuss chapter 2 just 10 pages with your kids. It has some powerful lessons that just might change their future. Mistakes Poor choices. Lapses in Judgement. Call them what you will, we all make them. Whats imperative is that we learn from our choices. That we ask better questions to get better answers as we evaluate options before we make a choice. We often try to teach that to our kids with the label consequences. Im not sure thats a good idea. Learning to assess what happened, as well as forward looking to avoid the bad results we call consequences, is easier to digest. While it would be any parents dream to have their kids learn from the parents mistakes, rarely does it work that way. Theyre going to reach their hand out to see if the stove is really hot, or maybe just to find out what hot means. Wouldnt it be great to have a resource that could connect mistakes and faulty thinking with outcomes? Skip Prichard has written The Book of Mistakes that does just that, and shows you how to do life awake and aware of what your choices are creating. He sets out nine common mistakes that hold us back. And then suggests ways to avoid making those mistakes. Hint: Check out the nine single-page summaries, and talk about them with your spouse and kids. A Legacy of Learning In the end, the real end, all the boats, and all the wealth, and all the people, including you, will be gone. Only the waves will remain. Why not help your children enjoy their moment on the wave by creating a legacy of learning?

What You Need to Know About Getting a Job With a Reddit Resume Service
What You Need to Know About Getting a Job With a Reddit Resume ServiceMost job applicants have come across the problem of filling out a resume online when they go to complete a Reddit resume service. A lot of these applicants are looking for a service that will help them with the whole process of getting a job with Reddit. However, many applicants feel that a Reddit resume service should be able to do more than just provide them with a job application. The problem here is that many job seekers don't realize that many of these resume services out there will not help them get a job. These resume services simply don't do anything for job applicants other than list a few available jobs on their websites. If the applicant cannot find anything specific online on which they can apply, the applicant may be wasting time trying to find that particular job.In order to know if a certain service is doing everything it should, you should do a little research and find out what jobs different resume services are marketing. You should see what is advertised on their websites and in their advertising materials. The applicant doesn't have to do much effort to see if the job service is legitimate or not.In most cases, the most successful of the job applicants going through the process of applying to resume services are the ones who are really serious about getting a job with Reddit. The applicants who are seeking employment on this site are truly serious about getting a job. Most applicants really appreciate the fact that they can apply for jobs on their own without any help from anyone else.It is for this reason that many job applicants feel that these job applicants are serious about the job they are applying for. Because the application process is so easy, most applicants are putting a lot of thought into what they are going to put on their resumes. Instead of wasting the applicants' time, they prefer to spend their time on actual jobs with which they are going to be working. The job applicants who are willing to put the work into getting a job through a website use Reddit as a branding opportunity for themselves. They want to be the very best at whatever it is they are applying for. For this reason, they are willing to do everything it takes to get the job.Reddit job applicants can also search for jobs on their own. All they need to do is type in 'Reddit job' in Google and find jobs to apply for. This is very efficient and it helps to provide a service to the applicants in a way that many websites simply cannot. If the applicant is serious about getting a job through a website, the applicant should be willing to put a little extra work into the Reddit resume service and search for jobs themselves. The applicant should go about it the best way possible, that is, by working on what they are good at and by applying as best they can on those particular talents.
